Collection: Premium Paring Chisels

Paring calls for control, not force. IBC Paring Chisels are designed for long, hand-guided cuts where precision matters; from fine-tuning joinery and cleaning up dovetails to trimming a joint flush and removing the final thin shaving for a precise fit.

IBC Paring Chisels pair a long, finely balanced 6" A2 blade with an extended handle, providing the reach, leverage, and feedback to feel exactly where the cutting edge is. Designed for precise fitting and finishing work.

Made for Controlled, Precise Paring

The long blade of a paring chisel changes how the tool is controlled. With one hand guiding the blade close to the work and the other applying pressure through the handle, you can make fine adjustments that would be difficult with a shorter general-purpose chisel.

IBC Paring Chisels are particularly well suited for:

  • Fine-tuning mortise-and-tenon joints
  • Cleaning up dovetails and other joinery
  • Trimming joints and components flush
  • Removing thin shavings for final fitting
  • Controlled slicing across or along the grain
  • Furniture, cabinetmaking and other precision woodworking

These are hand-guided cutting tools. For chopping mortises or other work requiring repeated mallet strikes, choose an IBC Bench or Mortise Chisel instead.

A2 Tool Steel — Made in Toronto

At the heart of every IBC Paring Chisel is its cutting edge.

Each blade is machined from AISI high-vanadium A2 tool steel, hardened to 60–62 Rc, cryogenically treated and triple tempered for edge retention and dependable performance through repeated fine paring.

From raw steel to finished blade, IBC chisel blades are manufactured in our Toronto facility.

Long Reach. Fine Control.

A paring chisel should let you feel what is happening at the cutting edge. IBC combines the long blade required for reach and leverage with a balanced handle system designed to give the woodworker precise control over the cut.

The blade connects to IBC's hollow, milled steel handle core, creating a rigid connection while allowing the handle system to remain interchangeable across compatible IBC chisels.

Choose walnut or maple to suit your workbench and preference.
