A bench chisel is the general-purpose chisel woodworkers reach for most. From paring and fitting joints to light chopping and general joinery, its combination of blade length, strength, and control makes it one of the most versatile cutting tools at the bench.
IBC Bench Chisels use a standard 25° blade geometry designed to balance cutting performance with edge durability. It is the general-purpose choice for hardwoods and everyday bench work, including applications where the chisel is struck with a mallet.
A2 Steel - Made for the Cutting Edge
Every IBC Bench Chisel blade is made from AISI high-vanadium A2 tool steel, fully stress relieved, triple tempered, cryogenically treated, and hardened to 60–62 Rc for dependable edge retention.
The blade is ground with a 25° primary bevel and a 2° higher micro-bevel, combining a keen cutting edge with the durability needed for everyday woodworking.
From raw steel to finished blade, IBC blades are manufactured in our Toronto facility.

1/4" · 3/8" · 1/2" · 5/8" · 3/4" · 1"
For woodworkers building their first premium chisel set, 1/4", 1/2", and 3/4" cover the majority of everyday bench work. Choose individual sizes as you need them or the complete six-piece set for the full range.
For primarily softer woods and end-grain work, consider IBC's 17° Bench Chisels, which use a lower cutting angle for a finer slicing action.
